about

This is the song that ties up the mistakes theme. Not a whole lot to explain here other than the broken arm line actually happened. I dove off a light tower from about 6-7 feet on a dare in 1984 (Olympic Fever, I was imitating Greg Louganis) and broke my arm. I like the image of me in mid-air as getting too close to the sun and burning my wings, like Icarus.

This was probably my favorite song on the record at the time of recording and most of the songs I've written since then have been more like this than the chugging chords of Mulligan or Chicago. Ironically, I've been trying to remember how to play this and I can't seem to get it right.

lyrics

We reminisce on times in the course of our lives when we've encountered harm. Like when I focus my mind on when I was five and I broke my arm. The mistakes we make, we're destined to repeat whether the lesson's learned or not. The liberties we take to keep ourselves elite are what's causing us to rot. "Hey self-actuator, do you want my help?" I'm a self-actuator and I can do it myself. But we all fall down and make a sudden stop, just like how Icarus fared. When I hit the ground and I felt a pop, well, I was fooled, not dared.

One of the true joys of being in treysuno is knowing that we were the soundtrack to some of the best years of the lives of a couple dozen people. Who needs a stadium tour when you can make a deeply personal connection like that? ... more
