about

We started recording our full-length album on December 7th, 2002 (a date that will live in infamy). We spent way too much money and way too much time on these tracks, to the point where we unanimously agreed to scrap everything and start from scratch after three years.

We recorded these tracks at 40 Oz. Sound in Ann Arbor. Justin got a job as a part-time engineer there, so we got a discount rate. Still, we spent about $3,000 on all of this, and had nothing to show for it. We tried everything to make these sessions work. Our good friend Lenny Gitlin acted as second engineer on this (as he did on The Sexual Deviance Record). We even brought Seth Anderson up with us at some point to co-produce. No matter what we tried, we still couldn't get any traction with it and eventually it started to feel more like an anchor than a record.

There are definitely some good things about these recordings, but after three years all we could hear was a mashup of technicality and layered mistakes. There was no passion in it and we feared that everyone would be able to hear that.

The first 8 tracks are from the second attempt to mix the record. Believe it or not, there was a third attempt which is considerably worse than these and was the trigger to cut bait on Ann Arbor. Tracks 9-11 are unedited, unmixed roughs from shortly after the initial tracking session.

about

treysuno Bowling Green, Ohio

It's exceptionally rare that a rock band affects the lives of people. Most of the time they're just background noise, easily dismissed and happily forgotten. One of the true joys of being in treysuno is knowing that we were the soundtrack to some of the best years of the lives of a couple dozen people. Who needs a stadium tour when you can make a deeply personal connection like that? ... more
